Claude Code Claude Desktop ChatGPT Gemini Grok Cursor Codex CLI Windsurf Cline OpenCode

SKILL.md is the open standard for AI coding assistants. For consumer chat tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude), paste the file as a system prompt or custom instruction. Either way, the install takes under a minute.

01

The Five Mode Router

Verb based and noun based routing rules. When two modes apply, the verb wins. Documented edge cases.

02

Mode Specific Rules

Sub modes, output formats, length caps, voice defaults, and explicit guardrails for each of the five modes.

03

The Anti Patterns List

Every cliched AI move banned by name. No "great question". No "let me know". No em dashes. No reflex rule of three.

04

Voice Calibration

How to mirror a writing sample without copying surface tics. Sentence length, register, rhythm first.

05

Worked Examples

One concrete worked example for each of the five modes so the routing logic is obvious in action.

06

Handoff Rules

Clean defer logic for when specialist skills (spreadsheets, slides, code, design) are installed alongside.

Is this a prompt or a skill?

A skill. One SKILL.md file in the open Anthropic skill format. Drop it in your skills folder and it activates automatically when the request matches one of the five modes. No copy and paste each time.

Why one skill instead of fifty?

Most skill libraries are noise. Twenty narrow skills, all overlapping, none consistent. This one file handles the two dozen tasks above with a single routing logic and a single voice. Less context burned. Less drift. One thing to remember.

Does it work outside Claude?

Yes. SKILL.md is the open standard for AI coding assistants: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, OpenCode. For consumer chat tools, paste the file as a system prompt or custom instruction. ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude all accept the format. One file. Every major assistant.

Do I need any other skill to use this?

No. This is a generalist skill that handles every common workday task. When specialist skills are installed (spreadsheets, slides, document production, code), this skill defers to them cleanly. You can run it standalone.

How is this different from a long system prompt?

A long system prompt burns context on every call and is not portable. This file activates only when the request matches a routing trigger, is installed once, and travels with you across compatible tools. It is the difference between a habit and a sticky note.

What format do I download?

A single SKILL.md file. Plain markdown. Open it in any text editor. Drop it in your skills directory. Done.

Lifetime updates?

Yes. One purchase. Free updates as the routing logic and anti pattern list evolve.
