THE SIDE — Side Income OS Brain

For building something alongside the job without wrecking either. One orchestrator plus ten specialists that compute the unit economics before you build, find the first ten customers by name, and keep the firewall between the two intact.

What makes it different

The usual failure is not a bad idea. It is spending four months building something whose contribution margin was never going to cover the hours, and finding out afterwards. The economics script takes your price, your variable cost and an honest hours estimate, then returns contribution margin, break-even volume and hours to first dollar. Plenty of ideas die in that script, which is the point. They were going to die anyway, just eleven weeks later with more sunk in. The ones that survive get built with a number to aim at. The firewall specialist matters more than people expect too — IP assignment clauses and conflict rules have ended more side ventures than markets have.

It ships working code, not just prompts unit_econ.py

Computes contribution margin per unit, break-even volume, hours to first dollar and effective hourly rate at three demand scenarios. Flags any idea whose break-even volume you cannot name a distribution route to. Every OS Brain in this drop carries its own executable component, so the judgement calls stay with you and the arithmetic stops being a matter of opinion. Runs anywhere Python runs, and the specialists still work on their own if you never open it.

Say it in plain words — it works out the rest

"I've got an idea"→ 02 · filter before you fall in love
"What should I charge?"→ 05 · from the model, not the vibe
"When do I go full time?"→ 03 · when the number says so
"Am I allowed to do this?"→ 08 · read the contract first
"Nobody's buying"→ 04 · you had ten names, or you didn't

Where it refuses to skip ahead

  • No build before the economics — if break-even needs a volume you cannot route to, the build is a hobby with invoicing.
  • No launch without ten named prospects — "there's demand" is not a prospect list, and the difference shows at week six.
  • Firewall check before anything ships — IP assignment clauses have taken finished products off people, and it does not undo.
  • Kill criteria set on day one — decided in advance they are a decision, decided later they are a rationalisation.

The habit it is really selling: log hours in and money out weekly, because the honest hourly rate is the only number that tells you whether this is working. Single-seat license. Commercial tooling, not tax, legal or employment advice — your employment contract and local tax rules govern, and both are worth paying a professional to read once.
